Robert Arnaud d'ANDILLY (1589-1674), conseiller d'Etat, spécialiste des questions financières et proche de Marie de Médicis, a rédigé ce journal du 1er janvier 1614 au 31 décembre 1619, en s'effaçant complètement devant les faits qu'il note : il rédige non pas une oeuvre méditée longtemps après et de parti pris, mais une sorte de procès-verbal dont la chronologie est rigoureusement exacte. Les renseignements qu'il donne sont précieux et sûrs, notamment parce qu'ils ont été recueillis auprès de témoins oculaires et considérables ; on appréciera en particulier les détails qu'il relate sur la question controversée de la chute de Concini.
