To smooth the path of the tourist he gives valuable hints and warnings derived from his own experience; to assist the intending settler he discusses most informingly the problems of health, education, transport, and production---all non-technically and most readably. "His comments on The Church in Kenya," provocative though they may be, are entirely constructive and without prejudice. On The Native Races he is penetrating and humorous, always just in his estimate of the part they must play in the future of the country. His chapter on The Indian is frank but fair. The Historical Note provides a clever summary founded on careful research, without which none of Kenya s problems can be properly be understood.
