First edition, 8vo, pp. i-xi, 12-401, [1], 4 ads; brown cloth amateurishly rebacked in reverse calf; printed spine label, chipped; covers bowed; corners scuffed; lightly foxed throughout; otherwise good and sound. Ethan Smith (1762-1849) is most well-known for his book View of the Hebrews (1823), which puts forth the theory that Native Americans are descended from the lost tribes of Israel. Many religious scholars believe that Joseph Smith lifted elements of Ethan Smith's work in the development of his Book of Mormon (1830), although he denied any influence. Key to the Revelation presents 36 lectures on various theological topics, including historical foundations of the early church, wars of religion, Christianity in the United States, the existence of false prophets, etc. American Imprints 21243.
