Conch Smiles is a collection of family stories and anecdotes written by the sixth generation member of a prominent Key West family. The Porters have been an important part of Key West history since the island was first settled in the mid 1800s.
There are stories about raunchy pirates, eloquent poets and famous politicians. Movie stars, playwrights and even a notorious fan dancer are among the family friends described with wit and poignancy.
Jeane Porter, an accomplished artist and writer, is actively involved in Key West preservation and environmental projects. She is the owner of Heritage House Museum which is committed to preserving the island's cultural heritage.
