8vo. [7], 12-245, [5] pp. Brown pebbled cloth with a gilt decoration on the front board, gilt decorations and lettering on the spine. Illustrated by a frontispiece portrait of Kilpatrick and twelve additional full-page wood engravings, from original designs by Waud. With an account of the cavalry raids, engagements, and operations under his command, from the beginning of the rebellion to the surrender of Johnston. American Battlefield Trust, "Hugh J. Kilpatrick". Broadfoot 401; Howes M774. According to the American Battlefield Trust: "On June 10, 1861, [Kilpatrick] became the first officer of the Union army to be wounded during the war, while leading men at the Battle of Big Bethel. In September of 1861, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel of the 2nd New York Cavalry, and fought during the Battle of Second Manassas". Kilpatrick saw action at many of the most important battles of the Civil War, and was known for creating chaos and disruption for the Confederate Army and its supply chains (American Battlefield Trust, "Hugh J.
