Item description from seller

This is the first Hamlyn edition of Tucker Abbott's seminal work of seashells, and over fifty years later it is still in very good condition. A protective film has kept the dust jacket in great shape with only a little bit of wear at the top and bottom of the spine. Inside there is a faint mark on the front free endpaper where a small sticker has been removed, apart from that all the pages are clean and unmarked throughout. This showcases the very many colour and black and white photographs, some of which are quite superb. Tucker is a great writer and this is a very enjoyable to read, with chapters ranging from molluscs in their natural habitat to shells in medieval art.

Store description

I will begin by saying that mine is neither a conventional bookstore nor a conventional business. I have been a great reader and learner all my long life and have acquired a substantial number of books, which I began to sell off in a small way when I moved to a flat about ten years ago - and now that I am even older I am having to move once again in the next year or so, this time into an even smaller flat in a retirement community. In short, my Abe membership is a consequence of too little space and way too many books... My collection is fairly eclectic and mostly derives from my various hobbies, notably malacology and crafting. However there are a few more general items as well, some already owned by me, but also for the last five years or so I have enjoyed scouting around in charity shops testing my ability to acquire interesting oddities that I think might sell well. I like to be meticulous in what I do, and with regard to the books that I have for sale you may be sure that they will be packaged and sent to you with care, should you decide to purchase an item. Please enjoy my inventory!…
