366 pages with tables, figures, charts, bibliography and index. Royal octavo (9 1/2" x 6 1/2") bound in original black cloth with orange lettering to spine and cover. First edition. This work should be considered a stocktaking of the field, rather than a completely comprehensive view, although the authors have attempted to review and evaluate in some detail the writing of British social anthropologist, American formalists and French structuralists. No other text makes this effort. Condition: Underlining of text, corners bumped, spine and corners moderately rubbed, lightly soiled else a good to very good copy.
