252 pages. Index. N.D., (1933). Heavily kitchen stained. The beauty of this collection is the bountiful recipe collection of Doris Peters. From the Doughnuts (sic) of Ma Biggs Royal Book to Marguerite's letter with her "Over Night Casserole" recipe that she got from Phylis. She sent it, even though Claude doesn't like casseroles, but its "one for pot luck or if you know you'll be rushed for time at the last minute." (Look on page 201). This collection Is full of recipes from friends, many personal recipes and many more clipped from the local newspaper the Oregonian and other publications. The earliest I found is from the '40's. Inside the back cover, pasted in is “How to Read Meters Yourself”, a handy reference for any housewife; alongside are handwritten instructions for making a good finish for the floor, a good stain for wood, and good floor filler; all using heated gasoline! All the recipes Doris collected are included in the book, although I did copy a few: Chicken Loaf, Tony's Wine, and a couple of Sour Dough Starter recipes and related the recipes for Sour Dough Chocolate Cake, Biscuits and Hot Cakes. Doris Peters book is filled with history and friendship, it makes a great addition to any collection.…
