About this Item

She was the youngest daughter of the author Sir Henry hider Haggard and his wife Louisa who enters the last few chapters of this book as little Marianna Margitson. Lilias Haggard was born and (lied in llitchingham House, the home of her Margitson forbears and the scene of many events described in these pages. She was widely travelled, and accompanied her father on many of his foreign expeditions. During the First World War Miss Haggard joined the Nursing Auxiliaries and in 1919 was awarded the M.B.E. for her services. She had a deep love of the countryside and an unrivalled knowledge of East Anglian History and rural life which was reflected in the three published volumes of her country diaries, " Norfolk Life," "A Norfolk Notebook " and "A Country Scrapbook," as well as those two autobiographies of country characters "I Walked By Night " and " The Rabbit Skin Cap" which she so skilfully edited. In 191 her biography of her father " The Cloak That I- Left " was published. Shortly before her death in January, 1968, she completed the manuscript of " Too Late For Tears." This book is mainly based on the Diaries of her Great Aunt, Rose Elizabeth Margitson, and family letters, which between them cover half a century from the 1830's. Size: 8vo. Seller Inventory # 113952
