Original publisher's pale redl blind- patterned cloth,lettered gilt on spine and on front cover.First Edition of the English Translation by John Spanton (preceded by E.Martel's translation of 1854) of Chevreul's De la Loi du Contraste simultan des Couleurs (1839), "one of the most influential treatises on colour written during the nineteenth century." (DSB) Including sections on tapestry and carpets, colour printing on textiles, and clothing. Used but sound good copy - ownership inscription and ink drawing from 1842 to yellow fep with tiny hole, some wear, faint marks, rubbing and tanning to covers. Text and plates sound and very clean.
