8vo, pp. 410. A very good copy in publisher's cloth, contemporary name on end paper, rear hinge tender, some rubbed along the extremities of the cloth. Lande 668, Sabin 51486, Howes M-912; Robinson p. 145; Clark 3478. Murray traveled through Canada, down to Boston and New England, through New York, the South, etc. She talks about slavery, woman's mission, Cuba and the like. Murray (1795-1884) traveled to the US to study Botany and social questions. As a Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Victoria she was well treated wherever she went. However, when she returned home and published this work lauding slavery, her book became a best seller for the wrong reasons and she was dismissed from the court. Seller Inventory # 53903
