About this Item
931265. Griswold, F. Gray & R.D. Hume. THE LIFE-HISTORY OF THE ATLANTIC AND PACIFIC SALMON OF CANADA. New York: Duttons, Inc. xiii + 179 p. 1930. First Edition. 8vo illus. with frontis map & b&w photo plates. Black paper spine; Grey-green paper boards with gilt lettering & gilt salmon fly. teg. [Cat 2020.] 931265 qx. A potpourri of information by various experts and others. F. Gray Griswold gives a balanced account of Atlantic salmon life-history. W.J.M Menzies reads a number of scales from the Moisie River in Quebec to determine their life history. W.L. Calderwood reads scales from the Grand Cascapedia River in Quebec. Griswold analyses the sport and commercial catch of salmon of Canadian rivers, which compare very unfavorably with the comparable salmon fishery in Great Britain. He comments that the rivers of Great Britain contain yearly five times more salmon than enter the streams of Canada. The sections on Pacific salmon by R.D. Hume, a commercial salmon operator in Oregon, are filled with misinformation. It is too bad that Griswold did not obtain the services of many scientists on the Pacific Coast who were capable of delivering much more accurate information on Pacific salmon. Book in Very Fine in a protective wrap. $85. Seller Inventory # 931265
