Formerly a school book (Colston's Preparatory School) name printed on second title page. This wonderful book is in reasonably good condition, and as its a used book, normal wear, marks, and tear apply consistent with use and age. Has a brown wrap underneath dust jacket, 239 pages all intact, nice clean, readable pages and nice tight binding. Some marks to edges of papers only to be expected of a book of this age and used by schoolboys. Maps to beginning and end of book. First Edition 1959. Printed in Great Britain by Richard Clay & Co. Ltd, Bungay, Suffolk. Cat No. 6259/U. This is a story of a load of paper that the scriveners-the men who lived by copying books by hand in the fifteenth century-tried to keep from Caxton, the master printer. The story of John Goodrich who loved the fine individual craftmanship of the past but knew that the future too had treasures to offer. No one who has ever read one of Cynthia Harnett's absorbing, exciting and warm-hearted historical stories will need after this to be told any more than-just read it and see.
