Joan D Vinge, GRR Martin, Robert Silverberg, Clifford Simak win Locus awards, James Schmitz, Robert F Aickman and George O Smith pass on. Schmitz wrote the wonderful Telzewy Amberdon novels, The Witches of Karres, Demon Breed and others terrifc sf pieces, Robert Aickman is well known for "Cold hand in mine", and George O Smith for his "Venus Equilateral" tales. Ad astra, gentlemen. The Norwescon report also features pictures of Samuel Delany, Philip Tenn Klass and the camera-shy, recluvice, Charles N Brown. Book reviews include Little Big (John Crowley), A dream of kinship (Richard Cowper), Thei majesty's bucketeers (L Neil Smith), The Keep (F Paul Wilson) a great horror novel turned into a low-budget movie whose most memorable features is the fabulous microdot-tastic Tangerine Dream score. Report from Archon V (GoH Tanith Lee, whose signings at the Fantasy Inn opposite the subterranean public loo in the Charing Cross Road at the National gallery end were always fun.
