1st Ed. 305pp. + [ii]. 16 colour plates, numerous bw. ills. by the Author and Cottington Taylor, 8 maps. f.e.ps. browned, e.ps. sl. spotted, without front f.e.p. but with ownership inscription affixed to stub instead, original gilt lettered green pictorial cloth, some minor soiling and rubbing, light stain to upper board, head and tail of spine sl. bumped, t.e.g. Toy 1255 In August, 1901, Maxwell had the Griffin built to his plans in the mountains of Switzerland . In October he had her hauled to Schmerikon and launched. He made his way by lake and canal to Zurich.
