First one-volume edition in the Traveller's Companion Series - printed in Israel by Steimatzky's Agency, as stated on the printer's page . The original edition was published in Paris in 1955 as a two volume set. With the Publisher's Digression - a four-page introduction describing the problematic publishing history of the novel, and the debate over obscenity in literature, along with a four-page Foreword by John Ray, Jr., Ph.D. ***Although this edition retains the 1955 printing date on the printer's page, it is believed to have been published around 1958. This edition has unpriced covers, although there is a pencil price of 21/- at the top corner of the back cover. ***Very good in the standard green card covers printed in black. The covers show quite a lot of rubbing and creasing, especially at the corners which have some curling to the tips. Head and tail of spine rubbed with light vertical reading creases. The covers are however bright and clean, with no stains or marks and no fading. Slight reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Some handling marks to the fore-edge of the page block. Internally also very good, with no inscriptions and no foxing. Pages clean. Some creasing to a few corner tips, but no significant creasing and no tears. ***223 pages. 185mm x 110mm. ***A first and only printing of the first Olympia Press one-volume edition, printed in Israel in association with the Olympia Press in Paris. Of interest to collectors of Vladimir Nabokov's work and the publications of the Olympia Press. A very uncommon edition and hard to find now in any condition. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # PB721
