The editor at this time, Rev. Isaac William Wiley (1825-1884), a Pennsylvania-born medical missionary to China (1850-1854), minister, editor of the Ladies' Repository (1864-1872), and was elected Bishop of the M. E. Church in 1872, traveling widely in the United States, Japan, and China, where he died in 1884, at Foochow.
