T. Fisher Unwin, 1902, first edition, bound in olive green cloth with titles and decorations in gilt and green on the spine and in yellow and green on the top board. Very good condition with light bumping to the head and foot of the spine and the board corners. Some instances of scattered foxing throughout, also occasional marginal lining, some underlining and a few notes, all in pencil, otherwise clean. The preface states that 'A simple story of Bengal village-life appeared in Calcutta, under the title of "Sansar", in 1885. It is now offered to English readers in an English garb, with some necessary alterations, as a slight effort towards the lifting of that curtain which veils the inner life of the people of India from the West.' 19cm, 7 inches, tall, viii, 256 pages. Illustrated with a frontispiece. Rare.
