"The history of the county of Madison in the state of Mississippi has certainly been a long time in the making, a fact which makes it difficult to describe in such a short space. The first Madison Countians were Indians; they were followed by other pioneers and settlers, then doctors and lawyers, preachers, businessmen, and professionals. The diversity of the county's residents over its first 100 years had brought a richness to its history, and strength to its future. This story is called "The Land Between Two Rivers," because Madison County lies between two rivers - the Big Black and the Pearl - which have been critically important th the area's economic and social development. But really, this history is not so much one of a "Land Between Two Rivers" as the people of that land. . . . The first 14 chapters of this book cover just over the first 100 years of Madison County's history, and the final chapter discusses a few highlights of the county's experience since 1936. These pages detail, by subject, the people and past times that made up the county during that century." Previous owners name is on half title page, and on page 381 in the FAMILY HISTORIES section, there are 5 names underlined within the previous owners family name genealogy. No other markings seen.
