Sacrifices made by the youth on all fronts with introductions by Hermann GÃ ring, Baldur von Schirach and Hanns Oberlindober including facsimile signatures. The book is "a modest expression of the ineffable thanks of the German people to its fallen soldiers" as Baldur von Schirach puts it. A tribute to the more than 10,000 young soldiers who lost their lives in the First Battle of Ypres in 1914, following the first German gas attack in Langemarck, Belgium. The self--sacrifice brought about the popular and enduring "myth of Langemarck." Profusely illustrated with sepia-toned photographs of the area, the cemeteries and memorial sites featuring various letters sent by the fallen soldiers as well as anonymous poetic contributions.
