First edition. Signed by both George and Muriel Beadle. Original dustjacket and green and white cloth binding. Binding is firm with minimal wear. Dustjacket has some small tearing at corners. Kroch's & Brentano's of Chicago price label affixed to rear corner of dustjacket. The book is illustrated with a number of diagrams. The book is advertised as the much-needed primer for laymen about the state of the science of genetics in the 1960s, including the structure of proteins, and the nucleic acids RNA and DNA. It also explains the history of genetic research, and poses questions about the future and potential applications of genetic research. George Wells Beadle (1903-1989), American geneticist, was a 1958 Nobel Laureate in physiology and medicine, and the seventh president of the University of Chicago. Muriel Beadle (1916-1994) was an author, copywriter, as well as editor and feature-writer for the Los Angeles Mirror-News. Hardcover. Condition: very good. 242 pages, octavo.
