Add to basket304pp; evergreen linen stamped black, price-clipped jacket; 198 x 141 x 35 mm. Canadian issue from US Nelson sheets (tp integral) in a proprietary Macmillan binding, with original Thomas Nelson jacket (published 1939). The 1931 memoir of 87-year-old Red River trader & buffalo hunter, blind Norbert Welsh (1845-1932) of Lebret near Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan, as told to Mary Loretto Girroir [Gerrin] Weekes of Regina (1884-1980). With a Foreword by F.W.G. Haultain, former Premier of the North West Territories of Canada (1891-1905). A Saskatchewan History & Folklore Society plaque was erected to Norbert's memory by the Midlakes Community Coalition in 1999 (referring to him as a "Metis freighter, hunter & trader"). His first buffalo hunt was in 1862. Includes his reminiscences of the Riel Rebellion. A tight clean copy in a nice jacket with two closed tears, & cracking along front fore-edge at flap. Note that the original US price has been mechanically punched through on both flaps. A very scarce book in either issue, though the pre-war US original is comparatively better represented institutionally (WorldCat tracing some 46 copies, as opposed to only 8 of the post-war Canadian issue).
