First British edition. Green boards with gilt lettering under green dust jacket with black and white lines on green background. Dust cover is not price clipped but has dog-leg tear at base of spine, up the back edge of the spine and then across just below the author's surname, with the front edge still intact. (Could easily be repaired with tape on the rear of the cover.) There is a smaller (3mm) tear on the top edge of the rear of the dust cover and a small mark above the 'n' of the title. The front end-paper has the owner's name on the right-hand side and three spots. The rear end paper is also foxed. The pages of text are tanned but clean apart from foxing to the edge of the text block which goes through to the edge of the margins on a few pages. Three separate spots occur on page 9.
