About this Item
An ex-library exemplar in folio-sized hardcover format, but with only very few signs thereof, with only a single accession sticker to spine bottom, faint remains of a removed book-plate, an ink-stamp along top edge, another skinny, little stamp at title page, an inked date-stamp following. Some slight scuffing to leather, small tear at spine head, very slight soiling to cloth, bumping to upper tip, some waffling to text-block as is the normal with sixty-years-old hand-made paper. Else a strikingly handsome homage, quite fine, to the heyday of Canadiana, assembled and arranged by Lawrence Lande and with a lengthy introduction by Edgar Andrew Collard. Bound in heavy sailcloth over boards, quarter pigskin-backed, in a 22" tall x 10 1/2" wide x 2" thick format. Sans publisher's slip-case. Printed on hand-made, rough-cut, deckle-edged paper, being one of a Limited First Edition of only 950 signed and numbered copies, numbers 75-950 being bound in pig-skin, this being copy #385, signed at the page of limitation. Plentiful, many score illustrations and maps, some in fold-out, others in facsimile including on blue card-stock at front and rear. Attractive texts printed in double-column. Avant-propos in French by the author, The colophon notes that it was the first book produced at the Richard Pennington printing office at McGill University University Press. Printed letterpress by I.B. Kristensen, the type being Monotype Bulmer, and with multiple papers, all hand-made, being employed. All in, a good-looking, resolute exemplar. Blank, [2], blank, Page of Limitation, two blanks, double-page title-page, [2], blank, xi-xxxv [2], 2-304 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
