First edition, 4to (9.5 x 7.25), pp. (14), (1), 2-268, engraved illustrations throughout after works of Joseph Noel Paton and Walter H. Paton engraved by many of the finest engravers of the period. Attractive signed fine binding of full red squeezed calf by Ramage with their gilt pallet signature on the front paste down endpaper. Upper side with gilt Scottish royal arms centered and gilt corner ornaments within green on-laid border with gilt roll tooling, repeated on the lower side without the arms. Back in six compartments gilt lettered in the second, gilt center ornaments in the rest. Five gilt roll tooled raised bands within gilt roll tooling above and below. All edges gilt, gilt roll tooled elaborate inner dentelles, marbled endpapers. Attractive fine binding in very good condition with some minor wear to edges, corners and extremities. Joints with some wear but holding very well, back a bit darkened. Touch of foxing to versos of the endpapers and front blank. Sheets clean, unmarked, complete. No owner names or inscriptions.
