Royal octavo. Pp. xix, 506, (4), 28, (4) publisher's catalogue and ads. HARDCOVER, bound in the original publisher's brown pebbled cloth, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, abrasion mark to cloth on cover, some wear to spine ends and corner-tips, light foxing to first few pages. In a very good condition. ~ First Issue of the FIRST EDITION. The present copy contains the original 28-page catalogue. (Later issues were published with an enlarged 54-page publisher's catalogue.) The American edition, comprising of 421 pages of text and a 4-page catalogue, was published only later that year (New York, Harper and Brothers). John Elliot Cairnes (1824-1875), Irish economist. At the time of his death he was generally regarded as the leading British economist and the last defender of the classical school. "Some Leading Principles of Political Economy" is considered one of his most important writings. TIMO-2.
