Black board with gold foil tree, pictorial dust jacket with author's portrait en verso, mylar wrapper. Parks wrote this novel based on his experience as a black man growing up in 20th century United States. The Learning Tree tells the extraordinary journey of a family as they struggle to understand the world around them and leave their mark a world that is better for their having been in it. The protaganist,14-year-old Newt Winger, was born into a poor Black family in Kansas and the story portrays a year in his life as he learns about love, fear, racial injustice, and immorality. This novel was later adapted into a successful film. Minor tear to bottom front dust jacket, some chipping to spine, protected by mylar wrapper. Not price clipped. Text and pages are clean and crisp.
