First American Edition, first printing. The GDH symbol is present on the copyright page. Covers are lightly soiled. Corners are bumped and spine caps softened. Sprinkling of foxing on the page edges. Remnants of white tape on the paste-downs. The front free end paper has been removed. There is a one inch closed tear on the bottom edge of the half title page. P. 83 has a vertical fold midway . Otherwise, pages are clean, smooth and unmarked. The binding is sound. 347 pp.
