First edition of this scarce collection of tales about gold mining in California in the mid nineteenth century, with seven plates by Laura Adams Armer. Though ostensibly based on the author's experiences, the stories are largely fictional. According to Howes, the majority of the edition was destroyed in the San Francisco fire, and most of the copies that come to market frequently show up in poor condition. Light spotting and soiling to cloth, corners lightly frayed, else a clean copy. Uncommon.
