Illustrated regional guide to Lecce and the Salento peninsula in southern Italy, produced by the Touring Club of Italy, one of the country's most respected travel and cultural publishers. The guide combines historical essays, architectural commentary, and practical travel information covering Lecce, Otranto, Gallipoli, and the coastal and inland towns of the Salento region. Introductory essays discuss the region's landscape, Messapian and Roman heritage, Byzantine influence, and the ornate Baroque architecture that defines Lecce's historic center. The volume includes approximately 100 color photographs and illustrations, 24 maps and plans, and multiple touring itineraries, along with listings of historic sites, churches, museums, agriturismi, hotels, and regional cultural events. A notable feature is the inclusion of large fold-out regional road maps and detailed town plans, together with Touring Club's well-known star-rating system highlighting significant cultural and historical sites. The guide therefore functions both as a practical travel companion and a compact cultural overview of the Salento peninsula, including locations such as Gallipoli, Otranto, Nardò, and Santa Maria di Leuca. Hardcover volume in Near Fine condition. Glossy illustrated boards clean and bright with only very light shelf wear. Binding firm and square. Interior pages clean, crisp, and unmarked. Fold-out maps appear complete and well-preserved with no tears observed. Overall a well-kept copy showing minimal signs of handling. Copyright page states Edition 2001; printed September 2001 by Touring Editore, Milan, confirming this as the first English-language printing of this edition issued by the Touring Club of Italy. Publisher note: The Touring Club Italiano, founded in 1894, is one of Italy's most influential travel organizations and publishers. Its guidebooks and atlases are widely regarded for their accuracy, detailed cartography, and strong emphasis on the cultural and historical context of Italian regions.…
