About this Item
A superb copy of this early work on opthalmology. John Morgan (1794-1847) served an apprenticeship under Sir Astley Cooper and from 1824 until his death was surgeon and director of ophthalmology at Guy's Hospital. The modest preface by the author insists he has produced an imperfect work which will not compete witt the standard works - and is simply a record his lecture notes, published at the request of his students. "Dedicated to the Students of Guy's Hospital, this work is dedicated by their sincere friend, the Author". v )(2) 221p + 18 plates of which 16 are delicately hand coloured. Contemporary half calf with marbled boards, spine with 5 raised bands and bright gilt titling. Original pink-brown unmarked endpapers and marbled egdes. There is an early owners signature on the first page - W.H.Green Woburn - which is clipped. There is slight wear of the edges of the boards but the book is tight, unmarked and with almost no foxing. It remains a near fine collectable or presentable copy. See scans. Seller Inventory # 009341
