The Binding is full dark brown cloth, very lightly faded at the spine, otherwise color consistent, with bright gilt title, author and design to the front board, bright gilt title, etc., to the spine, unmarked off-white endpapers, and all corners square and sharp. This volume covers the operations of the Army of Northern Virginia from and including the Battle of Gettysbury (July 1-4, 1863), the aftermath of the loss and restructuring of the army and further events until the final surrender at Appomattox in April, 1865, with special emphasis on how leadership and command actually work and orders are carried out.
