Item description from seller

First printing. Octavo (23cm); publisher's brown cloth, ruled in blind with gilt spine title; 242pp. Some foxing to endpapers and text block edges, else a fresh, straight copy, solidly Very Good. A very nice copy of this oft-cited sourcebook for Civil War historians. An early owner has annotated this copy in pencil: "Read this carefully and see if you don't think little Mac the candidate for the White House," initialed "W.J.B." (identity unknown). McClellan was indeed the Democratic Party's candidate for the Presidency in 1864, losing in a landslide to Lincoln. NEVINS I, p.10.
