Item description from seller

Very Good complete five-volume first edition set. Original publisher's cloth bindings. Volumes I-III retain their original dust jackets protected in clear archival covers. Volumes IV and V bound in publisher's cloth without jackets. Bindings remain square and secure with light shelf wear, mild rubbing at extremities, and a few minor bumps to corners. Text blocks are clean and bright. Several volumes contain a Norton J. Lehman bookplate on the front pastedown. Volume V bears a small law review reference stamp on the front free endpaper. No ownership markings within the text and no highlighting or underlining noted. A handsome and well-preserved scholarly set. The definitive edition of the correspondence of Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis (1856-1941), one of the most influential figures in American legal and political history. Edited by noted Brandeis scholar Melvin I. Urofsky, this five-volume series traces Brandeis's career from Progressive Era reformer and public advocate through his service on the United States Supreme Court and later years as an elder statesman. The collection provides extensive insight into constitutional law, social reform, Zionism, public policy, labor issues, and American political history. Set includes: Volume I (1870-1907): Urban Reformer (1971) Volume II (1907-1912): People's Attorney (1972) Volume III (1913-1915): Progressive and Zionist (1973) Volume IV (1916-1921): Mr. Justice Brandeis (1975) Volume V (1921-1941): Elder Statesman (1978) An important reference set for collectors and scholars of American legal history, Supreme Court studies, Progressive Era reform, and twentieth-century political thought.
