The books are bound in blue buckram spines over gray paper boards with spine labels mostly missing.The front cover of Vo.I is slightly soiled. Corners are sharp and the spine caps lightly worn. Top edges gilt. Rough-cut fore-edges and bottom edges. Frontis in Vol.I is a portrait in red-tone from a crayon drawing by the the youngest son of the author. Frontis portrait in VOl.II is of James "in middle life" in taken in about 1895. Tissue guards intact. Names of previous owners in neat pen on the ffes. Otherwise, pages are clean, smooth and unmarked. The bindings are firm. 13 illustrations in Vol.I and 6 in Vol.II.

Operating through a retail outlet located at 200 Maine St. in Brunswick and through its on-line sales activities, Curtis Friends operates only with volunteers from the local community and sells only those books donated by its constituents. Curtis Friends has been in existence for several decades.
