A very good copy bound in half leather with gilt decorated spine. Heraldic bookplate to inside of front board. Anna Eliza Kempe (1789-1883) Married Thomas Stothard's Youngest Son, Charles, he was draughtsman to the Society of Antquaries and was commissioned to undertake the drawing of the Bayeux Tapestry, Charles was also author and illustrator of "Monumental Effigies of Great Britain. He was a draughtsman of of unsurpassed skill. .They journeyed to France, and her first work consisted of Letters written during a Tour in Normandy, Brittany, &c., in 1818. Charles died from a fall off a ladder in Bere Ferrers church, Devon, on 28 May 1821, whilst drawing a stained glass window for Lysons work on Devon. She had one child him, a daughter, who died 2 February 1822. She undertook to complete the book her husband left unfinished, with the aid of her brother, Alfred John Kempe, F.S.A. , Publishing the final parts of Charles' "Monumental Effigies Of Great Britain" (1832) and "Memoirs, Including Original Journals, Letters, Papers And Antiquarian Tracts Of The Late C.A. Stothard" (1823). The volume here contains many topographical and costume illustrations by Charles. 23 plates, 6 hand coloured. Seller Inventory # 061868
