a special 4.5 X 7 inch (1816,c1816) hardcover in calf boards with spine columned in gold gilt and a black title label on spine, 236 pages with dated period signature on title page, rear cover held on by fabric bookbinder tape applied to rear inner hinge, front inner hinge intact but tender, Matthew Perrine was Pastor of the Presbyterian Spring Street Church membership to whom these letters are addressed, this Church was founded in 1809 opening in 1811 as an abolitionist establishment offering full communion to African Americans by1822, in 1834 racial rumors spurred a riot that damaged the Church forcing a demolition, in 1836 a brick structure was built in ts place which survived until a fire destroyed the Church in 1966, today this site is occupied by Trump International Hotel and Tower.
