Hard cover half-calf with morocco title label and lettering in gilt on green leather spine with dark green cloth boards. The bindings are tight and solid with some loss of colour or discolouration of the boards. Contents generally good and clean with xiv, 624 pages, the plates are toned and slightly discoloured; illustrated by Phiz with 39 plates and frontispiece of Dickens. This is a very early printing with the following errors: visiter for sister page 123 line 17, later for letter page 160, incsribed for inscribed page 238, flys for flies page 245 line 10, visiters for visitors page 272 line 2, incontestible for incontestable page 297 line 22, suprise for surprise page 586 line 24; the two plates facing pages 18 and 25 are marked Chapman and Hall, but not the two plates facing 38 and 44. Published in 1839 this 1st edition is in very good condition with most first issue points and an early copy possibly bound from the parts, which might explain missing xv/xvi page.
