First edition in a print run of 500. Brown cloth covered beveled boards, gilt stamped cover, top edge gilt, other edges uncut, cream colored end papers, tissue guarded frontispiece portrait of Ella Haggard. Thin volume measuring approximately 7 1/8" by 5 1/8 ". H. Rider Haggard wrote a memoir and published his mother's "An Essay in Verse" upon her death. Scott 102; Whatmore M24. London: Longmans, Green and Co. (1890), 38 pages. A VG/Nearly Fine copy with some loss of cloth at spine ends and modest soiling to boards.
