Very light edgewear, spine ends bumped; otherwise the book is in very good condition--binding tight, no marks or tears. The cover is an unusual watered green silk moire on boards with a lighter green label on the front. Before the Civil War, Redpath, a journalist, was an active abolitionist, defender of John Brown, and promoter of Haitian emigration. After the war, he was the organizer of the Lyceum Bureau and worked on behald of the Freedmen.
