Add to basket"The Life of LEWIS CARROLL" by Langford Reed with its original dust jacket. 1932 1st edition, 1st printing (with "This, the First Edition Published May, 1932" stated on the copyright page); W. & G. Doyle; London. The book contains 12 full-page illustrated plates. Also included is the original, un-clipped dust jacket. PROVENANCE - This copy comes from the personal collection of Stan Marx, the founder of "The Lewis Carroll Society of North America," with his bookplate affixed to the front pastedown. Marx was a major figure in promoting the study of Carroll's works, and was also involved in publishing works on Carroll, including co-authoring "The Pamphlets of Lewis Carroll." From the dust jacket: "In this centenary life of Lewis Carroll, the author has gathered together much new material, including a precise account of Lewis Carroll's very unorthodox religious convictions and his views on many other subjects of vital interest, as detailed in the letters and opinions - never intended for publication - which he gave to his most intimate friend, who have afforded the biographer unqualified facilities for examination and quotation and have related to him many amusing and true anecdotes about Lewis Carroll which have never before been recorded in print. This new work includes the letters written by Lewis Carroll to Ellen Terry, which are of the most engrossing interest. These letters appear in print for the first time and the volume, generally, will throw such a light on the mystic and unfamiliar personality of Lewis Carroll that no longer should it be the least known of our great British humorists. The numerous photographs in the book, including several taken by Lewis Carroll himself, further enhances its interest." Condition: Clean covers; some very light soiling on the spine. Sharp cover corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Nice interior - the pages are clean and appear unread with no issues found. Bookplate of Stan Marx affixed to the front pastedown. Overall the book is in Near Fine condition. The dust jacket is in Fair condition only with tears and bits missing along the flap creases, soiling to the covers and spine, and tears along the perimeter; the jacket is un-clipped with the price intact on the front flap.
