About this Item
1950. First edition. xiv, 494pp., frontispiece, 15 black and white illustrations and details of 3 other publications at the end of the book. This book forms No. XLVI of the St. Andrews University Publications, and was published for the University Court of the University by Oliver & Boyd on the occasion of the 500th Anniversary of the Foundation of St. Salvator's College. The subject of this book is James Kennedy (c. 1408-1465), a 15th-century Bishop of Dunkeld and Bishop of St. Andrews, who participated in the Council of Florence and was the last man to govern the diocese of St. Andrews purely as bishop. One of the Gaelic clan of Carrick he became an important figure in the government of the minority of King James III of Scotland as well as founder of St Salvator's College, St Andrews. The book is bound in the original maroon cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and a gold shield on the front board. The book is in very good condition with light bumping to the spine ends and slight fading around the bottom rear spine corner. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has some shelf wear with light soiling and about 1 /2" is missing from around the bottom rear spine corner. There is a teart of about 3/4" on the bottom front spine corner and a tear of about 1/2" on the top rear corner. These tears have been repaired on the reverse with tape. The wrapper is in an easily removed clear plastic protective cover. PLEASE NOTE: Heavyish book so a little extra may be needed for shipping to non-UK customers. Seller Inventory # gScotHist18
