Fine- in a Very Good+ mylar-protected Fourth Printing Dust Jacket. The Text Block is clean, bright white, tight, straight and square, with a pale red topstain and no markings of any kind. The Binding is full dark blue cloth (color faded at head of spine and lightly faded at heel of spine, otherwise uniform) with a bright silver "1" and black "sigmund freud" to front board, silver and blue title, etc., to black background on spine, unmarked gray endpapers, and all corners square and sharp. The mylar-protected Dust Jacket is bright black (color uniform throughout) with image of young Freud on front, original price ($6.75) intact on the front flap next to "Fourth Printing" statement, chips at head and heel of spine and bottom front, and abrasions to all edges. This first volume of the three volume magnum opus of Dr. Jones ( a protege of Freud himself) is not just a biography of Freud. It is both a history of the development of the process of psychoanalysis and some of the case histories Freud published, and an evaluation of the psychoanalytic methods he used and applied not just in psychotherapy but to the study of biology, anthropology, sociology, religion, art, literature and occultism. This Volume 1 covers, among other things, Freud's early life and development, his work with Josef Breuer and, later, with Wilhelm Fliess, his work on psychopathology, the interpretation of dreams and his theory of the mind.
