Small folio bound in eights, overall 10-1/4 x 7-1/2 in. (26 x 19 cm). No. 24 of 25 deluxe copies printed on Crane's Parchment Vellum Paper, signed by the author, before 725 regular copies of the edition of 750. 36 illustrations (25 printed full page, one page with 2, on leaves one side only), of which 33 are wood engravings from the blocks by Alexander Anderson. Publisher's deluxe vellum binding, ruled and lettered in gilt on front cover and spine, top edges gilt with silk headcap, others uncut. Collates [2 ll.], 1 l. (frontispiece portrait verso), 1 l. (title recto, colophon verso), pp. [iii] - x (Preface, Contents, Illustrations), 1 l. (fly-title recto), pp. [13] - 210, [2 ll.]. Negligible sunning of spine, two small stains and minor soiling on spine and front cover, small dried remnant of plant sprout in gutter pp. 32 - [33], else fine. Pages [77] - 90 constitute Appendix A, "A brief sketch of Dr. Anderson's life. (Written by himself in 1848.)" Pages [91] - 210 constitute Appendix B, "Extracts from the Diary of Alexander Anderson for 1795-1798." TOGETHER WITH a sewn sexto pamphlet 8-3/8 x 5-3/8 in., 6 ll. on fine cream wove, "A List of the Publications Printed at The Hillside Press, Englewood, N.J.," dated January, 1910 in the Prefatory Note, printed in red and black with ornamental initial, printer's devices, bands and headpiece and three specimen illustrations. The Life and Works is apparently Frederic Burr's sole issue under his "Burr Brothers" imprint. The eight further works listed in this pamphlet are the whole of Burr's further private press output from 1906 to 1910, some with typographical ornaments by Frederic Goudy.
