Item description from seller

Removed, no wrapper, 8 3/4 x 5 1/2 inches, 6 clean pp. 21st Congress, 1st Session, Ho. of Reps. Treas. Dept. Doc. no. 64. This report contains letters focused upon the building of a light house or beacon at Point Lookout in the Chesapeake Bay. $1150 was given to one Mr. Barney, for the purpose of buying the land for the beacon or light house, but nothing had been heard from Mr. Barney after he had received the money. The land was to be purchased from Jennifer Taylor, and another $1150 was appointed to be used in the purchase. No satisfaction could be had from Mr. Barney for the money, as he no longer had it in his possession. Mr. Taylor, presumably the son or other relative of Jennifer Taylor, refused to give a deed for the purchase, and objected to the use of his garden for the plot. An interesting group of letters showing the tedious process of procuring lands for public projects. A lighthouse was built in 1830; the Point Lookout area is now a state park.
