8vo. Brown cloth with black spine lettering, dust jacket. ix, 217pp. Frontispiece, illustrations, maps. Near fine/very good. Faint jacket wear, with spine a tad sunned. First edition, tight and handsome, of this first intensive examination of Lincoln's congressional campaigns. From the collection of Illinois governor and two-time Democratic presidential candidate Adlai E. Stevenson II (1900-65) and after him his son, Adlai E. Stevenson III (1930-2021), U.S. Senator from Illinois. Laid in is an age toned 4" X 6" sheet with a few words pencilled in the governor's hand, along with pencilled shorthand notes (likely in hand of his long-time secretary Carol Evans), below which is a small inked doodle (by Stevenson?).
