First edition, first impression of Greene s first play. Fine: firm and square binding in sharp red cloth; bright gilt; toned to the edge of the page block, else crisp and clean. The clipped dustwrapper is Very Good: bright and crisp with vivid red type to the upper panel; lightly rubbed to the spine tips and upper corners; some dusty-shelfwear marking to the rear panel and spine; the red type to the spine is lightly faded; presented in a removable, archival-quality Brodart protective cover. Enclosed is the programme (in Fine condition) for the first night performance, at Wyndham s Theatre, London, on 16th April 1953 (cast members Dorothy Tutin and Eric Portman are pictured to the front of the dustwrapper).
