In half, red morocco with elaborate gold decorations on spines and leather title labels. Matching, watered silk boards. Marbled endpapers and all edges marbled. Each volume separately paginated, with 3 volumes of Legendary and 5 of Historical subjects. An exhaustive and comprehensive series of articles and features connected to Newcastle, Northumberland and Durham-, illustrated throughout with engravings. In nice, tight condition with no fading or splitting. and clean, unmarked pages. There is a bookplate of William Aubone Potter on the blank leaves after the endpapers. (William Potter 1832-1887 born in Cramlington, was an eminent Mining Engineer, Justice of the Peace, a River Tyne Commissioner and Mayor of Tynemouth. He is buried in Cramlington churchyard.)
