8vo. 8 1/4". ix, 237pp. "The on-the-scene story of the men, women and children who are fighting England's war, 1939-1941." First edition. Very good book in very good minus dust jacket. Dark red cloth covered boards with gilt lettering on spine. Boards are clean. Edges and corner at head and tail of board spine are crimped and rubbed and with fraying just starting on the tips. Scuffs to lower-most board edges and rub-throughs on the back fore-edge corners. Shadow transfers to end papers. External page edges and text pages are age-toned. Some penciled underlines and margin notes. Text block is sound.
Dust jacket has shelf-wear soil and scuffs. All folds are creased and scuffed and with several small rub-throughs and horizontal closed tears. Losses across edges and corners at head and tail of jacket spine and fore-edge corners - see photos. Back spine fold has a 3 1/2" closed vertical tear an adjacent 1 1/4" closed horizontal tear ("L-shaped") across the width of the spine; an adjacent 3" diagonal crease runs from the right corner of the upper edge on the back panel to the spine; reverse side has old tape repairs to stabilize the closed tears. Upper edges of front and back jacket panels have several chips, rubs and closed vertical tears. All above issues are observable on the photos. All inside flap corners are clipped.
