In the original French.Volume I only of Alphonse de Serres de la Tour's scarce two volume tourist's guide to late eighteenth century London. Illustrated, and present here in the first edition.This volume discusses London, Southwark and Westminster, and is illustrated with five folding engraved plates, depicting Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral, the Lord Mayor's residence, 'La Bourse Royal' and Covent Garden.A charming introduction to London aimed at the eighteenth century French traveller. In a quarter calf binding, with paper covered boards. Losses to the leather to back strip head and tail, with further loss to head of volume number spine label. Joints starting, with boards holding firm. Blind stamp to rear free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Tide marks to the fore edge of the first half of the work, with significant tide marks to Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's Cathedral folding plates. Pages bright, with the odd spot throughout. Good.
